13th Annual Chilirhea Cook Off Information


March 10, 2018 will mark the thirteenth annual Chilirhea, a chili cook-off that began in 2004 bringing friends from college back together once a year for a good time. The first year consisted of four friends competing for bragging rights. By 2017, we had gone from 200 attendees raising $6,300 at Pratt Place Barn in 2010, to over 1500 attendees raising $100,000 in 2017 for Alzheimer’s!

Alzheimer’s Arkansas is an independent non-profit organization serving Arkansas since 1984. Their mission is to provide the information and support needed so that all Arkansans affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are able to live with dignity and comfort until a cure is found. Alzheimer’s Arkansas was an easy choice to partner Chilirhea with because several of us have lost family members to the disease. Alzheimer’s is extremely difficult on the individual, not to mention the family members.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) established an Alzheimer’s Disease Center to focus research and education on the debilitating form of dementia. The UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging is one of only 29 Alzheimer’s disease centers in the United States. The Center is a shared resource to facilitate and enhance Alzheimer’s disease research at UAMS and, through collaborations, nationally and internationally. Its purpose is to help older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers by supporting the development of better diagnostic and intervention strategies and helping them to connect with practicing health-care professionals.

The institutional mission of Broyles Academy is to prepare students for entry level employment and career advancement. Broyles Academy will prepare students for the Silver Tsunami by engaging all students in meaningful learning experiences that meet the highest educational and ethical standards in a caring, collaborative learning community supported through partnerships with businesses, civic organizations, and higher education.

This year’s Chilirhea will be located at the Washington County Fairgrounds. More information to come!!!! We will have live music, a silent auction, hot dog stand, kids zone and wine pull. We will also have event promotional items for sale including Peoples Choice Tokens. We are reaching out for silent auction items or money donations to help our event continue growing and reach our goals this year!

We also raise money for Alzheimer’s from the entry fee for teams to cook at the event. The base entry fee is $500 to cook and many companies sponsor teams at the $500 donation level. Our sponsorship levels are attached showing what you or your company will receive with each level of donation ranging from $500-$5,000.
